In North America alone, there are well over a hundred thousand roofing companies. How can you as a small business, a small roofing business, differentiate yourself from the competition out there?
Ask yourself. What is going to make a homeowner or business owner call you rather than Chuck-in-a-truck roofer over there? That’s what you need to think about.
So in this video, what I wanna share with you is different ways of attracting your ideal customer and ultimately getting them to contact you. So let’s dive right in.

For those of you guys who don’t know me, my name is Mats Moy and over the past five years or so, I’ve been helping numerous roofing companies, well over a hundred roofing companies get online and start producing roofing leads from their local markets.
How to get customers’ attention and turn them into leads
Now, in this video, I wanna share with you how to get the customer’s attention, because that’s all we’re ultimately competing for. We want the attention of this homeowner, we don’t want it to go to the competitor.
So how can we get their attention, but more importantly, getting their attention and turning them into someone who’s going to pick up the phone or fill out a form to essentially contact us? So that’s what we’re looking to do here.
1. Find your ideal customer
Now, before you can get someone’s attention, you need to figure out where they are. So this brings me to my very first step, finding your ideal customer, where are they?
Now, if you haven’t already, be sure to check out this video here, where it gives you a nice breakdown of Google versus Facebook. These are two of the biggest marketing platforms online and I’ve heard it all right? Many people prefer Facebook, many people prefer Google. And in this video, again, I break it down for you. I’ll give you a hint or I’ll tell you what I personally prefer, it’s Google. And so refer to that video to find out why.
Now, this is not to say that there’s only Google and Facebook because there’s more, right? There are other avenues for you to get the attention that you need to get those calls coming in, right? You can go to Instagram, you can go to LinkedIn, you can go to YouTube. There are so many platforms, Twitter that you can get in front of and get the attention of the customer.
Focus on one platform at a time
Now, ideally, you wanna focus on one avenue at a time, rather than trying to spread yourself across the entire board and not knowing, you know, what’s working. For honing in on one, figure it out, get good at it. Start to produce leads and then add another.
So that is our very first step in getting the attention. You need to figure out where the customer is.

So once we figure out where they are, you personally need to do this one thing to make sure that this all goes right. You need to subscribe to my channel because I put out content just like this, each and every single Wednesday. It is valuable, it is useful, not only to you, to your business, to your sales reps. It will help everyone overall, help them generate more leads on a day-to-day.
Now, what I wanna do is follow a simple three-step process in order for you to attract those customers. But more than just attracting them, turn them into actual leads, estimates, inspections, service calls. Whatever you wanna call it, right?
And so in order for us to do that, our very first step is to find out where our customers actually are. And we did that in our very first step where we’ve identified multiple platforms where you can actually, you know, get in front of those customers.
So we have Google, we have Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, you know, LinkedIn, the list goes on. So figure out, and again, if you haven’t already checked out that video, figure out where those customers are. That’s our first step.
2. Attract those visitors
Our second step, is for us to actually attract those visitors, attract those customers to us rather than our competition. And how do we do that?
Well, there’s a list of things that you can do to get in front and attract those customers. So we can use ads, we can use videos, blogs, articles, posts, you know, Google My Business. There are so many, many different things that you can use. You just need to use whatever comfortable for yourself.
So in the industry, there are many different company owners who are just not comfortable on camera. It’s a thing, right? Very common, not only in this industry but across, you know, everywhere else. It is very difficult for people who have not been used to this whole pick up the phone and, you know, shoot a quick video, display your expertise and this is something that you, if you’re not comfortable with, you can go the written format, right?
If you’re not, if you don’t wanna shoot videos, maybe you can write content, right? If you don’t wanna write content, maybe you can just speak audio content, you can do podcasts, right?
So pick what is best for you and then make it your own and get in front of the customers who are looking for, you know, education, information, because that’s all that they’re looking for. They’re looking for a solution to their problem, right? You gotta put yourself right in the homeowner’s shoes.
Get out of the box
And to be able to differentiate yourself, you have to be comfortable or become comfortable doing something other than what your typical customers are or your competitors better yet are doing.
So the easiest form, in my opinion, for you to stand out from the competition is to pick up one of these. Pick it up, set it up to, you know, record a video, and just explain to me what you are doing on the roof.
Once you’re done that video, you can use that to then post on a multitude of platforms. Platforms that we’ve spoken about in our very first step. So you can head over to Google, put it on your Google My Business. You can head over to your website, you can put it on your website, your Instagram, your LinkedIn, your Facebook.
You can do so many things with it and get in front of so many different people. So stop being shy, get over your fear of not, you know, being able to get in front of one of these and posting it, just get it done. If you need to go through some type of mindset training to get over some fears, then do so because this will ultimately help you attract more roofing leads.
3. Convert the traffic
So once we figured out a way to attract those customers, our third and final step is to convert that traffic. We’ve attracted people, we’ve gotten the eyeballs. Now, what do we do with those eyeballs, right?
We wanna tell them what we want them to do. We wanna give them what we would call a call-to-action, CTA.
So, at the end of your video, that you’re shooting, you can say something like, if you need a roofer, a reliable local roofing company to come out and service your home, pick up the phone, give us a call, insert phone number here, right?
In your Facebook posts, do the same thing. You give your blurb as to what you’re doing today. And again, if you would like for us to come out and give you an estimate, here’s our phone number, right? Give us a call or visit our website for more information. Tell them what you want them to do at the end of whatever content that you’re putting out there.
So there you have it guys, very simple, three-step process. Find out where your customers are, attract those customers with content, and then finally convert that traffic into actual roof estimates, roofing leads.
