Alright, so we’re gonna keep it real simple. I understand that you’re not the most tech-savvy, but that’s no excuse for you to get at least a basic understanding of how this online space works. So we’re gonna take it back to school.

Facebook ads, Google ads, SEO, call tracking, Google Analytics, so many different things. It can seem all intimidating and confusing. For most roofing company owners. I get that but there are specific myths out there that I completely want to blast out of the water because they’re simply not true. And that’s what we’re gonna be covering and discussing in this video.
So my name is Mats Moy and over the last five years, I’ve been helping roofing companies from the US to Canada, from Colorado to Texas to Georgia all over the place. Helping them install systems within their business to help them generate more online roofing leads in their own backyard. Does your roofing company need a large budget?

So the first thing that I wanna talk about in this video is, something that a lot of roofing company owners have the misconception about, which is that you need a large budget, you need deep pockets to be able to advertise, show up, generate leads whatever it is online. And that’s simply not true. You can actually generate leads online efficiently and consistently for free. You don’t have to spend a crazy amount of dollars to be able to generate leads you can actually get leads for a lot less than most people spending, you know, $5,000 a month for crap, that’s actually not generating leads for them.
And so there’s so many tools available to you that Google has made available to you, right. Being active on social media, using your Google My Business listing, things of that nature. It’s very, very simple and easy for you to get online. You don’t need deep pockets, right? You don’t need to be spending crazy amount of dollars on pay per click.
So for example, people that are utilizing their Google My Business listing efficiently, right. By them having a Google My Business listing, actively posting on their Google My Business listing, Google will drive traffic to that listing and have people contact you. People who are actually local and people who actually have a roofing problem can get in touch with you, because you are local and you’re showing up in the search, they can contact you. And that’s completely free on your behalf.
It’s a matter of putting in effort through your cell phone or the computer and start posting regularly, right at least twice a week. Post on your Google My Business listing, so that you get your message out there.
Let’s say you’re out at a job site, and you’re doing some kind of estimate or you’re actually repairing the roof. You might wanna screenshot it or take a picture of it. And then briefly explain what you’re doing out there, right. What are you doing on the roof? Where are you, right? If you’re in Toronto, Canada, for example, right say that you’re in Toronto, Canada doing a roof repair and this is what you found. As simple as that, and you can use that same piece of content across multiple social media platforms.
Really start getting your word out there, right? I find that many roofing, company owners roofing, anybody related to the roofing industry, just because you are not the most tech-savvy does not mean that you shouldn’t take the time to learn and invest in how to utilize these resources that are made available to you free. And start generating from it, instead of paying a company, right thousands of dollars a month to handle it for you, right? It’s for one, it’s very hard to find a company that’s gonna take care and really do a good job for you as far as generating leads.
And making sure that you know, you’re somewhat visible online. And so realistically, there are more things in your power that you can do on a day-to-day. So that you’re able to generate those leads for yourself.

What if you’re in a competitive market?

Alright, so myth number two. Here’s what I highly recommend that you do. I get a lot of messages all the time from different prospects, you know, people who are actually interested in generating more leads. They say, “Hey Mats, we’re actually in “a super competitive area. “How do we go about generating leads?” And what I normally say to them and as crazy as this might sound is, “Don’t, stay away from the big areas, right?”
Where is this rule, where’s the rule written that you should go to where all of the competition is? There’s more than enough low hanging fruits around the major areas for you to be able to generate as many leads as you actually need, right? If you’re saying a $10 million a year company, which most roofing company owners that are watching this video are not. Then you realistically would need like, you know, 100 leads every single month.
For the most part, you probably don’t need that much most roofing company owners that I speak to they need approximately about 30. 30 leads a month and then be really happy people, right? They’d have a profitable business, and they’ll be able to actually grow and you know, scale their businesses year after year just off of those 30 leads every single month. And how do we go about doing that? One very popular area that I see all the time is Dallas Fort Worth.
Now that is almost like a hellhole of competition, roofers, unlicensed, it’s just mayhem. And I highly, highly recommend you run away from it. Because it is crazy. The only people that are really doing very well are the people who have been established in those areas for quite some time. It is that much more difficult, because it is so saturated, whereas you could target an area just north Plano, Frisco some of those other areas around Dallas Fort Worth to be able to generate the number of leads that you actually need for your business. So, in a nutshell, you wanna stay away from those areas, right? If you are in an area where if you Google that specific area, and you see, you know, 10 different companies with more than, say, 50 reviews, for example, under Google business listings. You’re in for a tough climb. And it’s going to take you years.
And if you don’t have those deep pockets, this is where the deep pockets come into play. If you don’t have those deep pockets, to be able to withstand at least three years of consistent hammering towards Dallas, towards Fort Worth, then use stand no way in chance. No chance in hell to be able to start ranking locally within that area.
Whereas if you want to target a smaller area, around those areas, you can spend as little as a year and that’s me being kind of generous. A year to year and a half, targeting an area that’s actually gonna produce close to 50 leads for you every single month once you get established. Now that comes with a lot of hard work on your end as well, right? You cannot genuinely expect a marketing company to look after everything for you with you kicking back and doing absolutely nothing.
That is where you will lose, all right? You need to be able to amplify the results on your end. By utilizing your smartphone, you bought that device for a reason, right? And so why not be able to use it and not only you you can assign your sales guys to also utilize their cell phones. So that you get more content on your Google My Business listing, on your Facebook page, on their personal Facebook pages, to start driving more traffic to your business, right? That is what these devices should be for when it comes to running your roofing company. So start utilizing that, stay away from the big areas. And start targeting the low hanging fruit because they’re there, there’s a lot less competition. And you’ll be able to get more results in a much shorter amount of time.

What to do if your roofing website isn’t generating leads?

And lastly, I wanna talk about your website, all right. If for some reason you thought that getting a website was gonna drive more leads to your company. Then I don’t already have to tell you this, you had another thing coming, right? In order for it to be used as a tool to drive leads to your business. It needs to be nurtured, treat it like your baby, right? This tiny little thing that needs to grow. You can’t just have it born and then do nothing with it, right? It’s just gonna do absolutely nothing. if not worse, let’s just not talk about it.
You wanna be able to nurture that website over time, so that it’s able to generate those leads for you and if you’re not in a position to be able to nurture that site, so that it generates leads. Then don’t bother it up, I would much rather you go a different route, a route that’s actually going to produce for you with very minimal effort on your behalf. So what I would rather you do is, use your Google My Business listing to create a website. That will give you all the tools that you need to have something online to generate leads.
What is the point of creating a website, if it doesn’t do anything for you, right? The whole purpose of having a website online is so that it is being used as a tool, right? Let’s just call it an asset for the business to produce, right? That is exactly what your Google My Business website would do for your company, if it’s utilized properly. If you don’t have the resources to invest in say, writers to post blogs on your website, to create videos, to make sure that everything is always up and running. Then you’re much better off going the Google My Business website route. So now you know that this online thing doesn’t require a huge budget, to stay away from the large cities and to utilize your Google My Business website instead of your traditional website.
