Roof marketing strategies that just don’t work

All right, so in this week’s video, what we’re talking about is popular roof marketing strategies that simply don’t work. Chances are, if you are in the roofing industry, you’ve probably tried to market your business some way, somehow. Many of you are simply just knocking on doors. Many of you kick back, relax, letting phone calls come to you, somehow, someway, just the stars aligning.

Not sure what’s going on there, but I specifically wanna target a few marketing, and I’m gonna use air quotes here, a few marketing strategies that I believe, no, they just don’t work.

1. Word of mouth

So, the very first one that I wanna chat about is word of mouth. Now, let’s get one thing clear and I’ve said this many times in the past. Word of mouth, guys, is not a marketing strategy.

I often see in comments, I go on Facebook and Facebook groups, and people often say, “Oh, just do good work and you’ll get business.” Well, no. No, no, no. That’s not marketing. That’s not a marketing strategy. It’s out of your control. So, there’s nothing that you can do on your end to make sure that your name gets out there. That’s literally in the mouths of other people. They speak amongst each other and are great, referrals and word of mouth are amazing. But it’s not a marketing strategy. So, it just doesn’t work to grow your company. You can’t depend on that to grow your company. Because what if people don’t say anything about your company? Then what, what do you do?

So, if you’re actually one of those roofers that are strictly relying on word of mouth, you have to be here for a particular reason. You must have stumbled upon this channel because you’re probably wanting to get more leads. 2. Giving up too easily

Another popular marketing strategy that simply doesn’t work is trying a marketing strategy online one time, with one company and it not working, and assuming it just doesn’t work. That’s not the case. That is not the case.

Sometimes things just don’t work out with a particular company. That’s not a cause for you to say, “I’m not doing this anymore. It just doesn’t work. It wasted my money.” No, no, no. Guys, give it another go. Try finding another company, another company that’s gonna help you get to a point where you’re generating those leads online. Be open to the idea. Because if it didn’t work, there wouldn’t be so many companies out there investing hundreds of thousands of dollars every single year in their marketing online.

So, a few things with that, maybe the company that you worked with, it just didn’t pan out with them. Or the expectations just weren’t set properly at the very beginning. Understand that marketing online does in fact work. And sometimes it just doesn’t work out between different companies. So, give it another go. I highly recommend you do because you are missing out on tons of opportunities.

3. Just building a website

Number three, just building a website. Guys, it’s 2021. Just building a website may have worked, it probably would have worked 20 years ago. But today, everyone and their grandma has a website. And so it’s not enough to just build a website.

So many times I’ve seen, “Oh, we gotta redo our website because of X, Y, and Z.” More than likely, you don’t have a website problem. You have a traffic problem. Building a website is a commodity. It’s very simple, very easy to do. The hard part is getting people to your website without having to send people to your website, have it done naturally. And so, if you have this idea, this notion that getting a website is gonna help you generate leads, just throw that out the window.

Getting traffic is gonna help you generate leads, not a website. What’s the point of having a website if no one’s there to see it? If a tree falls out in the middle of nowhere, does it still make a sound? The answer to that question is, “Who cares?” Because there’s no point. There’s no point in trying to figure that out. Who cares? And it just goes the same with your website. If you build a website but there’s no one there to see it, does it still generate leads? Probably not. I don’t know if that made any sense. But probably not.
