Would it help? Maybe. Is it necessary? Heck no, I’m living proof of that, and in this week’s video, what we’re gonna talk about is marketing. Do you need a marketing degree to market your roofing company? Let’s dive right in.

My name is Mats Moy and over the past six, seven years, I’ve been helping roofing contractors all over North America get online and start producing roofing leads. And in this week’s video, what we’re gonna be chatting about is getting a marketing degree.
Do you need a marketing degree?
Now, this may be of interest to some of you guys, maybe not. But do you need a marketing degree to market your roofing company? To sum it up, I don’t think so, I don’t think you need a marketing degree, point blank, period. You can end the video here, I’ll see you next week. Peace.
Nah, I’m just messing, so here are some of the reasons why.
1. There’s an abundance of information out there
Number one, there’s an abundance, abundance of information out there that can help you as an individual market your roofing company. A prime example of that is this channel right here. If you haven’t already, go ahead and subscribe because I will give you that abundance of information so that you know what to do to market your roofing company online. So if you haven’t, again, subscribe.
And most of this information is free. You can get out there and start generating those leads. Sure, it may be a little bit of a mishmash of information here, the information there, and it may not necessarily walk you through the processes step-by-step. However, a lot of the information out there is absolutely free.
Now, if you want a more structured way of learning, of implementing certain tactics and strategies, then I highly recommend you check out one of our training programs. 2. I’m living proof of it
Another reason why you don’t need a marketing degree is, I’m living proof of it. I don’t have a marketing degree. How did I go about learning how to market roofing companies? And that is a very often asked question, actually, they go, oh, you know, how do you do or how long have you been doing X, Y, and Z?
So I actually started off as a roofing consultant at an engineering firm where property managers, building owners would hire us to come out and do annual inspections. Should the roof need to be repaired or replaced, I would then go out to the roof and draft up specifications as to what needed to be fixed and then tender it out to a list of qualified contractors. Once the job was awarded to a roofing company, I would visit the job site a couple of times a week just to make sure that the roofer wasn’t cutting any corners. And so that’s how I got my start in roofing.
So where does marketing come in? Marketing was me paying attention to the roofing companies that I was working with at the time, mainly commercial. And so these companies were well behind their time. I’ve always been somewhat of a nerd, geek that just loved computers and technology. And so I took my passion for technology and I implemented it in the roofing side of things, and that’s how I got my start.
Practice makes perfect
I was just building websites to start. And one thing that I noticed is that it wasn’t enough for roofing companies to just have a website. It didn’t produce the end result, the result that the clients actually wanted. Most people think that if I get a website, my phone’s gonna ring, that’s not the case.
Everyone has a website. You need a solid means of generating traffic to your website so that those people can pick up the phone and call you. So, I then learned how to market companies online.
I started off with one of the main contacts that I had from my previous job. And I said, hey, let me do your marketing free of charge. Won’t cost you anything, I will invest everything that I have to start. It won’t cost you a dime. And that is how I started messing around online and I learned the tricks of the trade and it was basically an internship, right? And that’s how I got my feet wet.
So I started producing leads for this one company. And then one thing led to another, and boom, here we are, we’re generating leads, and I use this particular client as a testimonial to land my second client, and then my third and my fourth and my fifth. That’s how I snowballed to a point where I knew, or I learned how to properly market roofing companies online.
3. You can have someone teach you
And the last reason why you don’t need a marketing degree is that you can have someone just teach you. You don’t have to go to school and spend thousands of dollars or go into some kind of course at a college or a university for someone to teach you things that are probably outdated anyway.
Have someone teach you a proven system to implement in your roofing company’s business. That someone can be someone like myself. I’ve already plugged this, but we have training programs to teach roofing company owners how to run their marketing in-house.
